Donor Money in the Electoral Processes

Image
Money is involved in electioneering. A lot of money! Political parties and organisations raise funds - they depend on donations. The Transparency register provides raw data, such as: $10,108,548 electoral expenditure by Advance Australia. That body received $13,459,036. The data is published by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC). Here is a QR code to the page. I think it was created by Chrome - just came up as an option. (It worked OK as a test on my computer with my phone.) However, the direct AEC website has a lot more data and many options. https://transparency.aec.gov.au/ Entities involved in elections are required by law to furnish the information to the AEC. In my case there are no monies involved at all. Nil. I suppose I could put a price on my time (?) and device and ISP use(?). However, I do not see myself as a "significant third party". I do not seek to influence votes.  Yours sincerely Allen Hampton Coburg achamptonmob@gmail.com

They were resisted, and people suffered grievously for resisting. The heroes may make us all proud. Victims were powerless. Everyone there was their victim. The ripples spread out from the sadly lovely sands of Bondi.

Victoria - Change or no?

Here is the report on the Upper House structure. https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/electoralsysteminquiry An earlier committee report (on the 2022 election) proposed change to Victoria's (now) unique voting method for the Upper House. The Government may propose legislation to remove "Group Ticket Voting". May. Here is the report on the 2022 election with the recommendation for change in the legislation:  https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/2022electioninquiry In brief Victoria has a Regional system of electorates for the Upper House. Electors vote for representation in their own region of enrolment. I think the theory is, that the voice of the rural areas will be heard. I do n...

And then there's the SENATE! (EDITED)

Image
At the moment the Australian Senate has extra prominence. The Government (based always in the House of Representatives) wants its Bill passed in the week ahead. That can only happen with support of sufficient Senators. (The Government do not have sufficient of their own party to pass the legislation.)
