Voting Numbers in South Australia (edited)

The voters in South Australia had two ballot papers, very like in an Australian Federal election. The voter was required to number all boxes on their lower house (Assembly) ballot paper. Full preferential voting was used. Failure to preference all candidates made a ballot informal. Some people think full preferential voting ought not to be used. Others think preferences after 1 should be optional. What do you think?

UPDATED The voters have made their choice and the election is over.  I went to a busy polling place on the Saturday and saw the crowd and the congested footpath. I also saw the strength of our democratic process. (That word, "democracy", is originally about the "ordinary" people having power.) HOWEVER  - our system and its workforce have improvement opportunities! Post in process 25/09/25 - slowly....

Federal Parliament's Joint Select Committee on Electoral Matters (JSCEM) An election enquiry is current (03/09/25) and wants to hear from you: https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Joint/Electoral_Matters/2025federalelection (This has been upated. I feel confused!)   Yours sincerely Allen Hampton Coburg achamptonmob@gmail.com Amended 13/12/25
