Workers wanted
Vacancies for (paid) "temporary election workers" (TEW) always exist.
Could you be one of the people with purple vests? Is being a TEW a good job?
(NOTE ALSO: Early voting centres need people during the week. So do "Election Managers".)
I think the pay is OK. You have to judge that.
People do paid election work as, at least in part, proving service to the community. Thank you!
The TEW may have a hard day. The hours stretch from 7:30 am to the end of the count and pack up - which might be 10:30 pm, or, unfortunately, even later.
There are no set breaks. Food and drink is squeezed in as voter flow permits.
A lot depends on the voting centre OIC - who is also a TEW and may, or may not, be experienced and efficient. A good OIC also looks after the workers. A well-run polling place is finally shut and everyone has left before 10:30 pm.
Commissions are tasked with providing training for the TEW. That training varies with the role assigned. The TEW is obliged to give some time of their own to training (preparing).
A full voting period day (8 am to 6 pm) spent in one role would be tedious and demoralising. Take for example, being the "Ballot Box Guard". (Pay attention, OIC!)
There are also full-time Commission employees and there may be vacancies there.
TRAINING
Especially in NSW, it is vital that TEWs are trained re formality in the Lower House. That is critical when it comes to issuing officers advising electors on the voting method.
I would like to audit the AEC training material. However, I was told it was copyright so inaccessible to me as a member of the public. Pity.
Workers are essential! Running elections I knew two things were a priority: Venues; workers. People are human and need a fair go. That applies to all - electors and workers. Did you notice the fiasco in WA?

BTW: If you do work on the Saturday Polling Day (Voting Day), be sure to vote yourself!
Some work for you?
